Business rate supplements: A White Paper (Communities and Local Goverment)
The Government has published Business rate supplements: A White Paper, in which it announces the introduction of a new power for local authorities in England to raise and retain local supplements on the national business rate in order to fund projects that will promote economic development.
The announcement follows extensive public debate on reform to business rates in England and the recommendations of the Lyons Inquiry into Local Government.The Government will legislate to enable local authorities that wish to levy the first supplements by April 2010.
The UK's strategy in 'managing migration'

The plan includes strengthening borders, enforcing immigration laws, and fast tracking asylum decisions. The government also plans to boost the UK economy by attracting highly skilled migrants and making the country easy to visit legally.

This guidance outlines the new procedures for the validation of planning applications by local planning authorities, provides guidance on the scope of material that should be supplied with planning applications; and outlines the benefits of 'validation checklists' in helping local planning authorities to achieve good performance and providing local planning authorities and applicants with greater certainty as to the nature and extent of information required in order to validate applications.This replaces Best Practice Guidance on the Validation of Planning Applications published in March 2005.
